Artist Statement:
All art that is made now is measured as emblematic of the time we inhabit, and flies in the face of the harsh streaming firehose of messaging we are bombarded with. The impact of technology on our lives…as we are deluged by a maelstrom of information, a pandemonium (from pan- ‘all’ + Greek daimōn ‘demon’) of economic power messaging hurtling at us, the deafening enchanted rants of information overload that attempt to lure, bewitch, enrapture, and subjugate the cultural moment we now inhabit. A titanic black hole forms, designed to “consume” us. It temps us to trade our consciousness for a numbed acquiescence to a moment of apocalyptic “babel”. In this compression of info-debris, of rubble, in what Walter Benjamin prophesied as the “catastrophe of history”, time is informed and ever more condensed into our iteration of cultural transformation. My task as an artist is finding inspiration in this compression, foraging for redemption, stepping aside and searching for relics, and coding the dig for the revelation of some truth.
